“Artificial intelligence” means a computer system, application, or other platform that uses or incorporates one or more forms of AI.
Some clients choose to use AI tools to obtain emotional support or advice. If you, as a client, decide to use an artificial intelligence tool or are thinking about using an artificial intelligence tool, please let me know so we can discuss the benefits and risks of using AI. I will be happy to talk with you about the potential benefits and potential risks of using AI in therapy so you can make an informed decision.
A few benefits of AI may include that AI can process large amounts of data quickly and can provide answers immediately. AI is used in computer platforms and technology and helps cross distances, so more individuals can be seen by providers. Increasingly, AI is being utilized in health care settings. AI can assist clients in practicing self-care and other tools throughout the week.
A few risks and ethical concerns include AIs can and often generate inaccurate or wrong information. AI focuses on the norm and patterns of data so when individuals are unique with diverse backgrounds and needs, AI often times cannot meet those distinct needs. AI does not have the same educational background as a human being does, and AI follows patterns and does not take into account actual human interaction. There can be privacy risks due to AI recording information being disseminated. Finally, if an individual is in crisis and turns to AI for care, AI will not help individuals with follow up care with a therapist or doctor to ensure their safety and work with them on their goals.
