Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do you ever feel stuck in a memory?
My goal is for us to work together to overcome these barriers so you can live a fulfilling life with a restored sense of strength, hope, and empowerment. EMDR helps individuals unlock and reprocess traumatic memories stored in the brain. This process enables them to release the negative beliefs, emotions, and physical sensations associated with the trauma, leading to profound healing and transformation.
2) What if I just want a safe space to talk and process in therapy?
My hope is to provide a space that feels safe, supportive, and comforting. Sometimes you may need someone to hear, validate, and sit with you in your pain. During our conversations, we may also make space for learning coping skills, and learning more about yourself.
3) Will I learn coping skills in therapy?
Part of our work together will be learning and practicing individualized coping skills, and self-care techniques into your patterns, routine, and nervous system. In conjunction with providing your nervous system with as many resources as it needs to feel calmer and more present in and out of session, we will also work towards looking at the roots and patterns of your pain. If we can heal the roots, you won't need to work so hard to deal with how the pain shows up in your life.
4) Have you found yourself stuck in old thought or feeling patterns?
I want you to know healing is available and you no longer have to live stuck in unhealthy thought and emotional patterns. Your unhealthy habits were just survival mechanisms that you held onto to protect yourself. You aren’t trying to be stuck in these old patterns! Your brain is just telling you that danger is imminent, so you prepare accordingly. But you just need to slowly build new, healthy habits because you aren’t in danger anymore.
5) What is Neurodivergence?
Being neurodivergent means your brain processes, learns, and interacts with the world differently than others that includes: autism, ADHD, dyslexia, CPTSD, and other conditions. There are unique strengths, creativity, empathy, hyperfocus, out of the box thinking, and problem solving to name a few that come along with being neurodivergent.
6) Does setting boundaries mean you don’t care about your loved ones or yourself?
Most of the time it is difficult to begin to learn and implement healthy boundaries in our lives because we think or feel like we are being mean, unkind, or selfish. Healthy boundaries are healthy ways to provide clear limits defining acceptable behavior and interaction, ways to safeguard your time, energy, emotional health, and focus, and ensuring everyone understands roles, expectations and responsibilities. Creating healthy boundaries takes time but it is a gift we give to ourselves and to others.
In addition to working with adults 18+, I work with teens 15-18 years of age.
